Finding Humor in My Journey from Painting to Illustration and Back Again to My True Passion
Last September I said 'Back to School'
Embarking on a new journey can be both exhilarating and daunting, especially when it involves a career change. That’s exactly how I felt when I decided to enroll in an illustrator course. I was seeking a change in my career, hoping that illustration would be the gateway to sharing my art with the world. My passion for painting album covers for my friend's medicinal music inspired me to explore this new avenue. I envisioned creating illustrated novels or children’s books that would resonate with others and leave a lasting impact.
The Realization: Illustration vs. Painting

As I delved deeper into the world of illustration, I quickly realized that this path wasn’t aligning with my true artistic calling. While I appreciated the technical skills I was gaining, the essence of what I wanted to express felt stifled within the confines of illustration. It became clear to me that there is a significant difference between a painter and an illustrator. While both are artists, a painter often focuses on creating original artwork that expresses their unique vision and emotions, utilizing various mediums and styles. In contrast, an illustrator typically works on specific projects, often translating concepts or narratives into visuals for books, advertisements, or other media. This distinction helped me understand that my passion lies more in the freedom of painting, where I can convey my perspectives and insights without limitations.
Art with a Purpose
Through this journey, I discovered that my paintings are not just about aesthetics; they serve a deeper purpose. Influenced by my background as a Life Coach, NLP practitioner, and the use of medicinal plants, my art aims to change perspectives, offer new insights, and share how I perceive the world. I want to evoke emotions and provoke thought, creating a dialogue with my audience that goes beyond mere visuals.
Embracing New Directions
Ultimately, my experience in the illustrator course taught me a valuable lesson: sometimes, you need to try something new to uncover what truly resonates with you. Realizing that illustration wasn't my path has brought me one step closer to understanding my artistic direction. I now recognize that I don’t need the title of an illustrator to share my vision with the world. Instead, I am excited to embark on a new adventure—discovering how I can authentically express my art and make a meaningful impact.
Conclusion: The Journey of Self-Discovery
In conclusion, every step we take, whether it leads us to our desired destination or not, contributes to our journey of self-discovery. By exploring new avenues, we gain clarity about our passions and purpose. I look forward to embracing this newfound understanding and exploring the limitless possibilities that lie ahead.
